- Public event - Scivil event

On Sunday, November 23, the 15th edition of Dag van de Wetenschap (Day of Science) took place. Dozens of locations across Brussels and Flanders opened their doors for more than 850 activities, bringing science closer to the public. Scivil was present at several locations to put citizen science in the spotlight.

Citizen science is for everyone!

Citizen science truly has something to offer for everyone. It was inspiring to see how visitors discovered the concept of citizen science and how it sparked curiosity and enthusiasm among people of all ages and interests.

Visitors discovered what citizen science is with our fun and accessible quiz: Which type of citizen scientist are you? We also presented our two citizen science projects Amai! and Maarallee, through which citizens can make valuable contributions to research and applications in artificial intelligence.

Our locations

  • University of Antwerp: As part of the Amai! project, visitors could chat all day with our analogue AI chatbot. We also gave a short talk and quiz on artificial intelligence.
  • University of Hasselt, Diepenbeek: In Hasselt, we needed your voice! Visitors spoke in their best dialect or colloquial Flemish to the Maarallee app, in order to teach AI to understand Flemish. They could also take our citizen science quiz: Which type of citizen scientist are you?
  • Muntpunt, Brussels: Here too, visitors helped AI better understand Flemish through our Maarallee app and discovered their citizen scientist type with our quiz.

Thank you for joining us!

Thank you to everyone who visited us during Dag van de Wetenschap. We hope this day sparked your curiosity and inspired you to take your first steps as a citizen scientist!
